5 Tips on How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Posted by Jamie Concannon on

There are plenty of ways you can try to avoid dehydrated skin!

It would be very easy to assume that dry and dehydrated skin are exactly the same. That isn’t the case however, and knowing the differences between the two is pretty important.

In short:

  • Dry skin = Low in oil
  • Dehydrated skin = Low in water

Today, we’re mainly going to focus on dehydrated skin, and different ways you can try to change that. Even if you only make a few small changes to your skincare routine, you can often be amazed by the results!

1.     Cool Your Jets

It’s no secret that a hot shower can feel like the absolute best thing in the world. Whether it’s first thing in the morning or after a particularly long day, it’s like hitting a reset button.

That said, hot water can actually take away some of the natural moisture on your skin, making it feel dry afterwards. Rather than choosing between icy cold and roaring hot water, a gentle medium of lukewarm water followed by a post-shower moisturiser could be just the ticket!

2.     Switch Things Up

Some of us feel the effects that the changing weather has on our skin more than others, so it can make sense to therefore change your routine. For example, a moisturiser you rely on in the winter months might not work as well in summer, or vice versa.

The best way to approach this would of course be to speak to a dermatologist before making any drastic changes to your routine.

3.     Don’t Hate, Exfoliate

Even if you are using exactly the right treatments that your skin needs, you have to make sure it’s being absorbed properly. Exfoliation takes away a lot of the dead skin cells that would otherwise effectively stop your skincare products from doing their job.

On the other hand, over-exfoliation can cause dehydrated skin, so it’s important to know what you’re doing!

4.     Supplement Your Routine

Taking care of your skin doesn’t simply have to involve directly putting something onto it. There are plenty of vitamins and minerals that are scientifically proven to support normal skin, with Vitamin C being one of them.

Our Beauty Complex formula was scientifically formulated to support your hair, skin, nails, teeth and gums. With hand-selected antioxidants and active ingredients, it contributes towards the maintenance of normal hair, as well as normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin.

5.     Drink Water

There is no shortage of reasons why drinking plenty of water every day is a good idea. Chief among them is that it can have a positive impact on your skin.

This isn’t something that’s going to have an instant effect, as your skin is the last organ to receive the nutrients in water. That said, the benefits of drinking at least eight glasses of water a day extend far beyond keeping thirst at bay!

Hyaluronic Acid – What is it?

A key molecule involved in skin moisture is Hyaluronic Acid - a compound that has a unique capacity to bind and retain water molecules. While Hyaluronic Acid is found in many areas of the body, up to 50% can be found in the skin.

In the human body, anything up to one third of our natural Hyaluronic Acid resources are degraded and used on a daily basis.

Interesting Fact: Hyaluronic Acid is naturally produced in the body. It is an important component of articular cartilage, where it is present as a coating around each cell. In the human body, anything up to one third of our natural Hyaluronic Acid resources are degraded and used on a daily basis.
